Letter from the CEO

Dear Valley Hospital Association (VHA) Members and Patrons:

Progress. Technological advancement. Higher quality service. These words summarize the tenor of 2001 for Valley Hospital. In the fastest growing borough in the state of Alaska, in the ever-changing field of healthcare, Valley Hospital kept the pace. Scientists estimate that every 18 months, the power of the computer doubles, and through technology and advances in medicine, Valley Hospital put this power to work in 2001.

From a new MRI and bone densitometer to a Progressive Care Unit, Valley Hospital increased the sophistication of both the diagnostics and the care given at Valley Hospital. And board members made strides to continue this commitment to stellar service through talented staff and superior technology. They added physician Board seats to the Operating board to strengthen clinical awareness at the Board level. They helped to create the Valley Hospital Foundation to ensure the future success of VHA.

Part of keeping the pace meant investment in new faces. Five new physicians moved to the Valley and joined the medical staff at Valley Hospital. Each physician brings new expertise and stimulates our local economy through employment and purchasing. 126 new employees joined the Valley Hospital healthcare team in 2001, including me.

Living in Alaska, particularly the Mat-Su Valley and working at Valley Hospital has been and continues to be enjoyable and rewarding. As we contemplate the mission of VHA and its significant impact, the improvement in quality living drives us to higher achievements. The mission of VHA is so very important to our community’s life, economy and future. As you read the 2001 Valley Hospital Annual Report, I hope that it demonstrates just how valuable a resource Valley Hospital is. I look forward to working with you to ensure Valley Hospital’s future success.

Respectfully,

George V. Larson
